Getting there

Transportation

Transportation is the one Promise expense paid back to the parent, and it's capped at $500 a year.

Last verified: October 2026

Can a Georgia Promise account pay for transportation?

Yes, within limits. Fee-based transportation, including ride-share, to and from a participating school or service provider, reimbursed up to $500 a year.

Do GSNS or SSO scholarships cover transportation?

No. GSNS pays only tuition and fees at an authorized school, and SSO scholarships are tuition grants, so neither can be spent on transportation.

Which rules and exclusions apply?

This is the only category GESA reimburses; everything else is bought through the marketplace.Trips that aren't for school or approved services

What does this look like for an Atlanta family?

$500 doesn't stretch far across metro Atlanta's commutes, so pick a school or therapist you can reach before you count on reimbursement.

How do you buy it?

Through the Odyssey marketplace. Promise purchases are made from the approved products and providers listed there; tuition payments to a participating school are started by the parent in the portal. Transportation is the only expense GESA reimburses.

Rules are summarized from GESA's Georgia Promise Scholarship Eligible Expenses list (dated May 8, 2025, still the list posted on mygeorgiapromise.org on October 28, 2026), the Promise family timeline and Testing 101 sheet (July 23, 2026), GaDOE's GSNS documents and the SSO statute (O.C.G.A. 20-2A). Only items offered in the Odyssey marketplace can be bought, so check there before you pay. A summary, not legal advice; GESA's current rules control.
