CAPS Child Care Assistance (Childcare and Parent Services)

Georgia's child care subsidy program, run by DECAL, helps working or studying families with incomes at or below 50% of state median income pay for care at participating providers.

Who can get CAPS child care help in Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb or Gwinnett?

CAPS serves families whose gross income is at or below 50% of the state median income at application, with dollar limits that vary by family size. Parents have to be in a state-approved activity, such as a job or school, and children must be 12 or younger, or up to 17 with a qualifying disability.

DECAL rechecks eligibility every year and publishes the exact income table on its CAPS site. Families may be asked to pay an assessed fee.

Why does CAPS matter to a private school family?

Georgia's K-12 scholarships pay for school, not for the hours around it. CAPS can help with aftercare, summer weeks and a younger sibling's child care at providers that accept it, which is often what makes a private school's schedule workable for a working parent.

Ask any school with a preschool, aftercare or camp whether it takes CAPS before you budget.
