Can private school students in Atlanta take free college classes?

Yes. Georgia's Dual Enrollment program covers students at private high schools and in home study programs as well as public schools. It pays tuition, mandatory fees and required books for approved courses, and colleges must provide required textbooks and access codes at no charge.

The lifetime limit is 30 semester hours, with no more than 15 in a term and three semesters of payment in an award year. Students apply each year and each term.

Which grades and courses does Dual Enrollment cover in 2026-27?

Juniors and seniors can take any approved course. Sophomores are limited to career, technical and agricultural courses at a Technical College System campus, unless they post an SAT of at least 1200 or an ACT composite of 26 in a single sitting.

For 2026-27 students must meet both the citizenship and the Georgia residency requirements to be funded. Kennesaw State, Chattahoochee Technical College, Gwinnett Technical College and Atlanta Technical College all run dual enrollment offices.
